Sterling Silver 3D Slot launching in June 2011

Sterling Silver 3D Slot launching in June

Earlier this year we reported that software giant Microgaming were working on their first truly 3D slot and that they planned to launch it in the near future. A few short months down the line and that reality will be realised as the Sterling Silver 3D slot machine is set to go live at Microgaming online casinos in June 2011.

Jackpot City Casino was the first to announce that the slot game will be making its debut next month and in a statement the casino referred to the new Sterling Silver 3D release as an innovative 3D Stereo slot that will differentiate itself from all other 3D slot games. The statement further described the new slot as having “super-realistic and definitely stand-out graphics“.

You may be wondering how different it can be from all the other 3D slots out there, but given that you’ll require special eyewear like you do to watch 3D movies, it must be something to behold. According to Jackpot City’s press release, the casino will be providing players with the required 3D glasses needed to enjoy the new slot which apparently has outstanding visuals including silver ingots and coins that you’ll want to reach out and touch. This probably means that you’ll have to register and wait to receive your eyewear before you can play, which may be a bit frustrating to some but definitely adds to the suspense.

As you may or may not be aware, the Sterling Silver Slot is not a new title at Microgaming casinos and the standard version of the game has been around for quite some time and proved to be very popular so far which is probably one of the reasons it has been picked to be the front runner for the new generation 3D slots at casinos.

So keep a look out for the new generation 3D Sterling Silver Slot in June and be sure to check back for a review!

Sunday Times names UK Online Gambling moguls in its Rich List

Sunday Times Rich List

Each year the Sunday Times releases its very own “Rich List” and this year it profiles the top one thousand wealthiest people in Britain and Ireland, as compiled by Philip Beresford. The list is based on identifiable wealth (i.e. assets including property, land, shares in public companies and even racehorses and art) but of course excludes bank accounts due to the fact that the paper obviously cannot access these. This means that the figures mentioned are only a slight indication of the true wealth that these moguls have amassed, but even so the figures are hugely impressive.

The list is made up of numerous categories, but we find the digital and online category the most interesting for obvious reasons! In this category Britain’s first digital billionaire Charles Dunstone of Carphone Warehouse and Talk Talk fame tops the list. In the online gambling entrepreneurs section the following online gambling moguls made the cut:

  1. In joint first place, but only in 90th place nationally are the millionaire father and daughter Peter and Denise Coates who are the owners of Bet365 and have reportedly amassed a fortune in assets reportedly worth over £750 million (this up £250 million from last year).
  2. Second in line are Russ DeLeon and Ruth Parasol, the founders of Party Gaming. Although their earnings are down £99 million, they still own a shared fortune of £733 million.
  3. Betfred’s Peter and Fred Done came in in third place with £660 million.
  4. Vikrant Bhargava, another Party Gaming millionaire comes in fourth with a net worth of £230 million in assets.
  5. Gibraltar-based Victor Chandler came in 5th with a reported fortune of £160 million.
  6. Founders of Betfair Andrew Black and Ed Wray are reportedly worth £125 million and £132 million respectively.
  7. Richard Koch, also of Betfair fame is apparently down £37 million this year at £92 million.
  8. Phil Cronin from Tombola has had a huge upturn of £27 million in his fortunes, reportedly reaching £82 million this year.

That is some serious wealth having been generated from online gambling over the years, and these are the just the individuals in the industry currently residing in the UK and while the global impacts of the recession and legislation issues are reflected in some reported losses, for the most part we’d say the industry is alive and well in the UK.

Royal Wedding a Royal Mess for bookmakers

William and Kate's wedding kiss

The Royal honeymoon was over before it began for bookmakers offering special bets on the recent Royal Wedding, costing many a fortune in pay-outs as the highly anticipated day unfolded.

As previously reported, once Prince William and Kate Middleton were engaged, betting on the Royal Wedding began with odds including everything from the wedding date to the dress designer.  Another interesting one was the colour of the queens hat, a special bet that recently cost bookmakers a small fortune when the yellow hat was backed into 8/15 from 12/1 the week prior to the event.  The agony continued for bookies as Kate’s dress was officially described as Ivory, a colour with was also the 8/15 favourite, even the bride’s arrival time at 11:02am had books like Betfred paying out.

William Hill who had offered odds on everything from the length of the bride’s train to Prince Harry dropping the ring have also had to open up the coffers for pay-outs.  In a statement released by the group, spokesman Rupert Adams commented, “We have been on the end of a Royal roasting as almost every favourite has come in and we will be paying out a six figure sum in the next couple of days!”  He further added that, “The only light relief for us was the fact that Philip managed to stay awake and Harry did not drop the ring!”

Royal Wedding Winning Racehorse

A further Royal blow was dealt to sportsbooks offering horse racing odds on the same day when a horse named “Royal Wedding” sped to the finish line in a 12-length victory at 4:1 odds at the nearby Sussex course.  The horses run had been well publicised in the local papers and punters had flocked to the books to place their bets on Royal Wedding in the Royal Wedding day race.  A very subdued David Williams of Ladbrokes commented that Royal Wedding’s win had cost the industry millions.

While a joyous occasion for millions across the globe, the Royal wedding day was definitely nothing but a royal mess for many sportsbooks.  It will definitely be interesting to see if special bets of this nature will continue to be offered in future…but we guess we’ll have to wait for Prince Harry to tie the knot before we get that one answered!
